The national song of India, “Vande Mataram”, was written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He originally composed it in Sanskritised Bengali as part of his famous novel Anandamath, published in 1882. The song describes the motherland as a divine and powerful mother figure and became a source of emotional strength for Indians during the independence movement.
“Vande Mataram” was first sung in a political context at the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress. Later, on 24 January 1950, the Constituent Assembly of India officially adopted it as the national song. Even today, it is frequently used in patriotic events, cultural programs, and school celebrations related to national festivals.
