The longest river in India is the Ganga (Ganges). Within the boundary of India, the Ganga flows for about 2,500 kilometres before entering Bangladesh (where it is known as the Padma). It originates from the Gangotri Glacier in the state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayas, and passes through several Indian states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The Ganga is not only a physical river but also holds immense religious, cultural and economic importance. Millions of people depend on it for drinking water, agriculture and transportation.
