The impact of automation on jobs is not black-and-white. It’s reducing certain repetitive roles while creating new skill-based opportunities.

The honest truth is that automation usually replaces tasks, not entire jobs. If someone’s entire workday depends on repeating the same steps, automation will eventually take over. But at the same time, businesses need people to manage, maintain and guide these systems. For example, automated billing systems replaced manual bill generation, but they created roles in system management, customer support, monitoring and data analysis. The nature of work shifts — it doesn’t disappear completely.

If history is any indication, every major technological shift — electricity, computers, the internet — initially created fear but eventually opened more jobs than it displaced. Automation will be similar. People who upskill in areas like data handling, AI oversight, machine operations or digital tools will benefit the most. So instead of thinking in terms of “job loss,” it’s better to think in terms of “job evolution.”
